This short clip – produced using the iris visualization workspace within VIC-3D 10 – is just a taste of a larger digital image correlation project we’re working on using VIC-3D and two Phantom High-Speed Cameras - Vision Research VEO 640s to analyze running gaits. Specifically, we’re interested in strains and deformations produced by different foot strikes in order to evaluate running shoe mechanics. Newer high-speed cameras offer high resolution options, which are useful to obtain full-field strain and deformation contour plots for high aspect ratio fields-of-view – like the thin, midsole region of running shoes.
